Structural Steel Box Frame

As part of the Kilburn Library rear extension works, JT Metalworks Ltd was appointed to deliver a robust, fully engineered steel box frame designed to support the creation of a wider structural opening. The project required a precise and durable solution capable of carrying substantial loads while allowing the client to introduce a more open, modern layout to the building.

Our team began by fabricating a bespoke frame constructed from 203x46 UC and 203x60 UC sections. Each piece was accurately cut, welded, drilled and assembled in our workshop to meet the structural engineer’s exact requirements. The completed frame was then transported to site by our mobile welding specialists, ready for installation.

To safely remove the original wall, we installed a full temporary propping system. Once the area was fully supported, the new steel box frame was positioned and secured in place, forming a stable and long-lasting structural opening. This configuration is suited for extensions where large sliding or bi-fold doors will be installed, as the horizontal beams provides strong, reliable fixing points for modern glazing systems.

The finish installation offers exceptional rigidity, making it an ideal upgrade where existing structures need strengthening or reconfiguration. This project reflects our capability in delivering precision engineered steelwork, structural alterations and on-site mobile welding solutions for commercial, residential and public-sector clients.

From small alterations to major extensions, JT Metalworks Ltd provides tailored steel fabrication and installation services that combine engineering accuracy with outstanding workmanship.
